  1. “Drowning is ruled the cause of death: Kentucky State Police are still investigating the death of a London man whose body was found Thursday floating in Laurel Lake. Both a state police spokesman and a spokeswoman for the Laurel County Coroner’s office said today the cause of death was drowning, based on verbal information received from the state medical examiner’s office on Friday. A preliminary investigation by state police has identified the body as John Frederick Curley, 36, of London. The body was found by two Keavy fishermen Thursday about 7:30 p.m. near the bank past Mill Creek between Flatwoods and Laurel Bridge. Police said as Curley had no local relatives, he had not been reported missing. However, police said they had been looking for Curley to question him in connection in the alleged unsuccessful assassination attempt against Commonwealth’s Attorney Tom Handy in April.” -not Fake News (Corbin Times Tribune, July 25, 1988)
